NYC Off the Grid Story Submission
NYC Off the Grid is a weekly newsletter featuring NYC stories submitted by New Yorkers, former New Yorkers, future New Yorkers, and visitors to NYC.
Before submitting your NYC story, please review the guidelines below and make sure to read our Submission Terms. Click the Submit A Story button to go to the submission form and enter your story.
Submission Guidelines
Your story must relate to New York City and be no more than 500 words.
Your content must be accurate, respectful, and free of defamation, misinformation, hate, or copyright infringement.
You do not have to be a subscriber to submit a story. (but it would be nice if you were!).
NYC Off the Grid Reader Submission Terms
By submitting Your Content to NYC Off the Grid, you agree that you have read, understand, and accept the following terms regarding the content and information (“Your Content”) you submit to NYC Off the Grid (“NYCOTG,” “us,” or “our”):
1. Subject to the following provisions, and unless specified otherwise , Your Content may be published in any media or format. Your Content (including your name) may be made public and could therefore become widely known and accessible (including on the internet).
2. Your email address (“Your Contact Details”) will not be published by NYCOTG, nor be used or disclosed for any marketing purposes.
3. Your Contact Details may be used by NYCOTG to:
• Verify the accuracy of your answers to the questionnaire.
• Gather additional information about the story and your perspectives on it.
4. You agree that:
• You are legally responsible for Your Content.
• Your Content is not false or libelous and does not infringe the privacy, data protection, or confidentiality rights of any third party.
• Your Content does not plagiarize or otherwise infringe any third-party copyright, moral rights, or intellectual property rights. For example, do not submit photos, drawings, or recordings unless you own the copyright or have obtained proper consent from the copyright holder.
• Your Content is truthful and not misleading. It reflects your genuine personal experiences or is based on your own knowledge.
• Your Content is not hateful (including, without limitation, in relation to race, religion, or sexual orientation), harassing, malicious, profane, discriminatory, obscene, sexually explicit, offensive, prejudicial to active court proceedings, encouraging violence or criminal action, or otherwise unlawful.
• Your Content is not commercial speech, advertising. You have disclosed any interests or potential conflicts related to the subject matter of Your Content.
• Your Content does not impersonate anyone else or misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or status.
• Your Content is not technically harmful (e.g., viruses, logic bombs, Trojan horses, worms, harmful components, corrupted data, or other malicious software or conduct).
5. You retain copyright ownership of Your Content. By submitting Your Content to NYCOTG, you grant us a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive worldwide license to use, copy, host, index, cache, tag, encode, edit, transmit, adapt, modify, publish, translate, publicly display, publicly perform, create derivative works from, make available, communicate, and distribute Your Content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it into other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed. You warrant that you have the right to grant this license, which may be sublicensed by NYCOTG to affiliates and third parties.
6. To the extent permitted by law, you waive your moral rights (e.g., the right to be identified as the author or to object to derogatory treatment) in Your Content.
7. NYCOTG may edit, add to, remove, or otherwise amend Your Content (or any part of it) at our sole discretion for publication purposes (e.g., editing for length or style or incorporating it into other stories). These actions may occur regardless of whether Your Content has been published. NYCOTG is not obligated to take any of these actions.
8. You agree to NYCOTG’s general Terms of Service.
9. You have read and understood our Privacy Policy. Be aware that in some circumstances, these Reader Submission Terms or exemptions provided by law for journalistic activities or freedom of expression may take precedence over our Privacy Policy.
